More Pig prejudice in Europe

Here we go again. Pigs take center stage at a school in Amsterdam.

AMSTERDAM, 27/04/07 - A school in Amsterdam has halted lessons on rural life because the Islamic children refused to talk about pigs. Reporting this, Alderman Lodewijk Asscher said he wants to take “tough measures.” Subsidies for all kinds of dubious groups must stop and parents of unruly children penalised financially. Asscher told newspaper De Volkskrant: “A primary school in Amsterdam-Noord has decided no longer to teach about living on a farm. Various pupils began to demolish the classroom when the pig came up for discussion. Apparently it has gone that far. These children, 9, 10 years old, have not been given even the most elementary rules at home about why they must go to school.”
What next, slaughter all the pigs and dogs in the world, because they offend Muslims? Oink!

It's unnerving that I actually find myself feeling slightly uncomfortable agreeing with you (on such a public domain), but yet I sit here nodding my head in agreement. We know it's ridiculous, but thankfully we have strong, fearless women like you to blog about it. Thank You xx

Every culture has 'taboo' subjects. Look at our culture and how we treat displays of women's bosoms and the genitalia of both sexes. How nuts is it that most of us have seen depictions of the goriest killings on the big and small screens, but just about every straight guy I know turns away when two guys kiss on screen.

Judging others is always a two edged sword. But that said, there's 'preferences' and then there's ignorance. I'd like to think that we're more in the thrall of our preferences rather than our ignorances. Although personally, I think being against same sex marriage is more ignorance than preference.

Thank you, JOE, am honored!

Hey PAULABXX, It's just a symptom of a far greater problem, that no-one wants to address, because it seems ridiculous and impossible. But that will get us into major trouble. I'm glad you agree. And you are the courageous one, considering what you have been through!

:-) BCF.

You're right BERT B, but I don't think we'd go around rioting, burning down and killing over boobs and peepees. Well, there might be a deranged few, but not en-masse. That's the difference. But I think that's what you meant by the difference between preference and ignorance.

Hey DANNY: How come you deleted?

Hi Incognito,

The truth is I am all for pigs' slaughter. But gradual, according to the consumption figures for bacon, chops, scratchings, sausages etc.

I hope it clear my firm and unwavering position on this matter ;-)

Or, and I think we are going to link up to your place. Cheers.

Just today there is an article in the paper about the problems in our world caused by parents that throw tantrums and children that think they can too. It seems that parents think they can come to school and throw a fit when their children get thrown out for throwing fits. Talk about your bad messages.
I think that I would rather eat the Boston Roast (Pulled Pork BBQ) at the local joint than any of their other choices. No, it is the baby back ribs that, No wait, their smoked pork sausages... Oh darn, I think I have eaten about everything on the hog except the liver. Can't abide the stuff. MUD

Hey SNOOPY... guess it would be fine if you're a meat eater... :-) But all I see is the face of "Babe".

Well, MUD, children do learn from their parents, so not surprising. You truly are a gift to the world for both your past and current work! couldn't abide liver of any sort, even when I ate meat. :-)
